At every Permanent Jewelry appointment, we put our result through a 3-step safety check and ensure the integrity of our weld seams before the appointment is completed. Our jewelry pieces are designed to last permanently, but that does not mean they are always unbreakable. In very rare cases, a piece of jewelry may break at the weld seam. Should this happen unexpectedly, keep your chain on and book an appointment with us for "Re-welding"—of course, this is free of charge for you.

Permanent jewelry has taken social media by storm and is already a huge trend in the USA. In this process, the two ends of the jewelry piece are welded together using the so-called spot welding method. That may sound intimidating at first, but it is completely safe and painless.

The following applies to all chain types: rub your jewelry pieces dry thoroughly after bathing or showering.

Care tip for Gold Filled and 14k gold jewelry: If needed, you can clean your jewelry pieces and pendants with lukewarm water, a soft toothbrush, and dish soap. Then dry the jewelry piece thoroughly. Jewelry polishing cloths are also excellent for polishing them up again and bringing them to a high shine!

Care tip for silver jewelry: This requires a bit more care, as it tends to tarnish. Here is our secret tip: put on a plastic glove and pull the end of the glove through under the bracelet. Now take some silver cleaner and a toothbrush and clean your jewelry piece this way. Then rinse the bracelet with lukewarm water. Afterwards, you can take off the plastic glove and enjoy your silver jewelry piece shining like new again!

Silver is prone to oxidation. The most common causes of this discoloration are chemicals such as chlorine, cleaning agents, hot springs, moisture, and in some cases even your pH level. If your piece of jewelry is affected by this issue, you can easily polish it to look almost new again with a silver cleaner or silver polishing cloth. We use only the highest-quality materials, specially developed for the production of permanent jewelry. These include solid 925 sterling silver, 14k and 18k gold-filled chains, as well as a small selection of 14-karat solid gold.

We also make no compromises when choosing our welding equipment! We use the only device on the market certified specifically for permanent jewelry by Sunstone, which guarantees the highest safety standard and is completely harmless!

The choice of material primarily depends on how much you want to pay for a piece of jewelry. If you decide on the gold option, you’ll be spoiled for choice. While Gold Filled (the best alternative to solid gold available on the market) guarantees excellent value for money (long-lasting color brilliance for months to years, depending on individual circumstances), with the significantly more expensive solid gold option, you’ll quite literally be happy forever.

Gold & Mary stands for quality, and for this reason, we make no compromises when choosing our jewelry chains. In our studio, we exclusively weld 14k and 18k gold-filled jewelry as well as genuine 14k gold. We’ll briefly explain the difference between this and the widely used gold-plated quality.

Gold-plated jewelry consists of a very thin layer of gold applied over a base metal (usually brass or copper). During production, the piece is dipped into a gold bath, and the gold content is very low (approx. 0.05%). Gold-plated jewelry therefore cannot withstand water, heat, chemicals, etc. for long. As a result, the skin comes into contact with base metals, which is not desirable for people with metal allergies. Gold-plated jewelry is the most affordable gold jewelry on the market.

In addition to a small selection of solid gold, Gold & Mary primarily uses gold-filled chains in a quality specially developed for the production of permanent bracelets. Unlike gold-plated quality, our jewelry contains almost 100 times more gold and is bonded to the base metal, so it cannot tarnish. This means the skin does not come into contact with base metals, and the jewelry is hypoallergenic. Gold-filled chains must meet strict US standards. The gold layer is thick enough, more affordable than real gold, and perfect for daily wear. It therefore offers you the best alternative and excellent value for money.

We take enough time with each customer so that you truly feel comfortable with your new constant companion. If, after the appointment, you still find that it doesn’t fit you perfectly, arrange a "repair" appointment with us, and we’ll be happy to adjust your piece of jewelry again for a small fee.

If for any reason you can no longer wear your permanent jewelry permanently, we’ll be happy to add a clasp to the chain you previously purchased.

If you need to remove your bracelet or would like to take it off, we recommend cutting it with a pair of scissors or nail clippers. The best place to cut is where the two ends of the chain were welded together and the jump ring was attached. That way, if needed, we can weld your bracelet back together again for a small additional charge or add a clasp so you can continue wearing it in the future.

Travellers can wear their gold and silver jewelry through airport security without any problems and do not need to remove it.

For MRIs and surgical procedures, in most cases the jewelry must be removed completely. If this applies to you, cut your piece of jewelry at the weld point using scissors or nail clippers, keep it, and we will be happy to weld it back together for a small fee.
